In response to Congress failing to extend the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (TRIPRA), which expires Dec 31, 2014, USI Insurance Services ("USI") is offering clients with property risks the option to take up terrorism coverage through its Terrorism Facility Solution. Underwritten by Lloyd's of London, this solution is competitive and available worldwide. Unlike other programs, this coverage is not limited to acts of terrorism certified by the United States Federal Government. In addition, the program comes with low and flexible deductibles, and is priced individually rather than as a percentage of all-risk premium.
Robert Meyers, USI's senior vice president of property & casualty, said: "Industry groups intend to pressure the 114th Congress to pass legislation reauthorizing the measure when it reconvenes on January 6, 2015, but there is no guarantee swift action will be taken. The absence of the federal backstop for terrorism coverage jeopardizes billions of dollars in projects requiring commercial insurance. Recognizing this uncertainty, we developed a solution that leverages risk management analysis to properly identify and quantify terrorism exposures instead of basing coverage on a percentage of total property premiums. Doing so creates meaningful protection that is cost effective, equally lender-compliant and based on actual location exposure."
Key features of the program are:
- a limit of up to a maximum of $200 million;
- The broadest definition of terrorism available, including coverage for political, religious and ideological-motivated attacks;
- Terrorism cover provided by Lloyds’ leading terrorism syndicates; and
- Markets that are flexible on deductible options, and in some cases offer terms with zero deductible.

USI Insurance Services ("USI") announced today it has acquired the Saint Louis, Missouri, operation of Holmes Murphy. This business and its employees will join USI's Saint Louis office. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquired business was established in 1995 and was followed in 1996 with the acquisition of Corporate Benefit Strategies, a locally-owned insurance broker. The practice provides employer insurance benefits and property-casualty programs for personal and commercial customers. This acquisition further strengthens USI's presence as a leading middle market insurance brokerage and consulting firm in the Midwest region, and complements USI's wide range of commercial property-casualty, employee benefits, personal risk services and retirement consulting offerings.

This employee benefits practice and all of its employees will join USI’s Anchorage, Alaska, office. By acquiring Wallace / Scott, USI’s footprint in the Northwest has been further extended and strengthens USI’s vision of becoming the nation’s number one brand in the middle-market insurance brokerage industry. Now in its 23rd year, the Forty under 40 program has honored nearly 900 individuals for their professional success and civic contributions. Bang was selected out of more than 200 nominations and is the only honoree from an insurance brokerage firm. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at RED Space at Hot Cards in Cleveland, Ohio.

USI Insurance Services ("USI") announced that Sandra Usleman, USI's chief sales officer, was one of six women who walked away a winner from the Austin Business Journal's 20th Annual Profiles in Power, which recognizes women of influence in Central Texas. Sandra was chosen out of 120 nominees and 25 finalists. The awards luncheon took place on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the AT&T Executive Education & Conference Center, attracting more than 500 guests.
As USI's chief sales officer, Usleman's responsibilities include leading country wide sales efforts in both property & casualty and employee benefits. In addition, she plays a key leadership role in USI's sales incentive program which recognizes the top sales professionals across the country from more than 140 offices. Usleman started at USI in 1997 as director of training and development and worked her way up to operating company president in the Southwest region. Several years later, she was again promoted, this time to a national leadership role as chief sales officer with offices in Austin, Texas and Valhalla, New York.

("Willis"), part of Willis Group Holdings (NYSE:WSH), to acquire seven of Willis' retail insurance brokerage locations across the United States. These locations will expand USI's footprint into new states, cities and markets where USI is looking to invest and grow. The transaction is currently anticipated to close late 3rd/early 4th quarter of 2014. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Gaston Caperton, III, has been engaged as a senior advisor to USI to advance USI's overall growth strategy for the Company's West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia offices. In this capacity, Mr. Caperton will work closely with USI chairman, president and CEO, Michael J. Sicard, to strengthen the region's client base in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, and cultivate new areas of investment. Mr. Caperton will be located in USI's Charleston, West Virginia location.
The former 32nd governor of West Virginia will also help to facilitate the integration of six locations in West Virginia, two in Kentucky and three in Virginia. These locations were part of USI's acquisition of 40 Wells Fargo Insurance brokerage and consulting locations across the United States that closed on May 3, 2014.
Mr. Caperton brings decades of insurance experience to USI, having led the McDonough Caperton Insurance Group to becoming the 10th largest privately owned insurance brokerage firm in the United States before winning the governor's office in 1988 and 1992. After leaving office, he taught at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy's School of Government and Columbia University. In 1999, he became president of the College Board, a position he held until 2012. Prior to joining USI, Mr. Caperton headed up Caperton Consulting, LLC for the past two years.

Hall was previously the chief executive officer of Emerson Reid ("ER"), USI's benefits wholesale operation which is headquartered in New York City. He will work closely with a cabinet of key employee benefits leaders and resources throughout the USI network to refine and execute on the Company's winning employee benefits model.

Many of Hall's responsibilities at Emerson Reid will be assumed by George A. Rosiak who has been named ER's president, and Isadore R. Baseman, who has been named its executive vice president. Hall will continue to have an active role in ER's finance and strategy areas.
Hall has been the chief executive officer of Emerson Reid since 2002, joining USI through its acquisition in 1998. While there, he held several positions in marketing and sales until ultimately leading the benefits wholesale organization. Hall began his career as a disability sales specialist in the Long Island, New York market with Paul Revere Insurance in 1992. After three successful years, he joined C&B Consulting group and help found the medical General Agency division.

Crawford will be responsible for cultivating USI's industrial vertical market across the country and will be located at the Company's Houston, Texas office. Campbell will be responsible for growing USI's national construction practice and he will be located at the Saint Louis, Missouri office. These appointments further strengthen USI’s property-casualty practice, providing clients with deep industry knowledge that is nationally recognized as providing a breadth and depth of solutions that lower their total cost of risk.
Crawford has been with USI since 2006 and, under his leadership as senior director of the risk management division, the USI Houston office has enjoyed success year after year. In that role, he managed the insurance sales force for upper-middle market private and public company accounts, and implemented a new sales platform using strategic risk management and a consultative problem solving approach that consistently achieved top line growth. His technical understanding of the risk issues for this sector is well developed from years of specialization.

Campbell came to USI in January, 2013 following the acquisition of Construction Insurance Partners (CIP), an insurance brokerage firm based in Saint Louis, Missouri that specializes in construction insurance wrap-up programs where he was executive vice president for 12 years. In his role, Campbell will lead USI in executing its construction vertical growth strategy and further developing products and services that will benefit clients.

USI Insurance Services ("USI") has entered into an agreement with Wells Fargo Insurance, part of Wells Fargo & Company ("Wells Fargo") (NYSE:WFC), to acquire 42 of its insurance brokerage and consulting locations across the United States. These offices will further expand USI's presence as one of the leading middle market insurance brokerage and consulting firms, and will complement USI's full suite of property-casualty, employee benefits, personal lines, retirement and specialty offerings. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

USI Insurance Services ("USI") announced the closing of the acquisition of Oscar & Associates ("Oscar & Associates") headquartered in West Caldwell, N.J. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Through strategic alliances with group medical and ancillary providers, Oscar & Associates is a wholesale broker that designs, communicates and implements benefit solutions to enhance employee satisfaction while maintaining employer fiscal responsibility. Oscar & Associates will be combined in Emerson Reid LLC ("ERC"), USI’s benefits wholesale operation that is headquartered in New York City. USI Insurance Services ("USI") announced the closing of the acquisition of Quintessential Advisors, Ltd. ("Quintessential") headquartered in Dayton, Ohio. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Quintessential Advisors was founded in 1995 as an independent firm with experienced financial professionals specializing in insurance, investments and employee benefits. The addition of Quintessential Advisors to the USI family extends the presence of USI as one of the largest property and casualty and employee benefits firms in the Midwest region and nationally.

USI Insurance Services has been recognized as one of 16 companies globally whose unique, creative approaches to problem solving are featured in the January, 2014 edition of Best’s Review Magazine. Working with several carrier partners, USI’s "Document eDelivery Hub," streamlines the information-exchange process between insurance brokers and insurance carriers by trimming the delivery time of policies by two to five days.
USI’s Document eDelivery Hub accepts documents from a carrier via a secure FTP; it then identifies the document type and client name by looking at the XML-based parametric data. Next, it performs a lookup within USI’s client servicing systems to determine the routing. Lastly, the document is inserted into USI’s Worksmart workflow engine where it is directed to the client servicer without it ever being printed, scanned or manually routed.
Best Review’s Innovation Showcase is not an award. Rather, it is an annual forum for recognizing forward thinking among insurance organizations. A panel of insurance industry experts assessed the relative merits of all 41 submissions in the 2013 event. Companies from North America, Germany, China and India participated. In reviewing USI’s submission, Gates Ouimette, founder and principal of ITconnector, and one of the judges, said that USI’s solution "requires vision and commitment, which is what truly makes this case study innovative."
Stewart Gibson, USI’s chief information officer, said: "We are honored to be recognized by Best’s Review for our Document eDelivery Hub. The Hub has improved staff productivity, lowered overhead costs, and documents are getting to the servicers two to five days faster than previously. For documents, such as policy audits that have to be addressed within 10 days of issuance, the time savings has been huge. It allows our servicers to work with clients to address issues before they become critical, resulting in higher client satisfaction and retention."
Eight experts were selected from the life, technology, risk management, processes and distribution sectors to review the entries. In addition to USI, other companies recognized for demonstrating innovative qualities in insurance initiatives included American International Group, IBM, Progressive and Zurich North America.
Gibson added: "We estimate the financial impact to grow as we add carriers to USI’s Document eDelivery Hub. In 2012, we processed more than 40,000 documents without need for manual scanning and routing. This volume represented about 25% of the document volume we received from our five initial carriers, saving us $30,000 in 2012 and $100,000 in 2013. As we add more carriers, the savings will exceed $250K annually. The productivity impact for our servicers has also been significant. Those that previously went to carrier sites to download documents, now just see them show up in their work queues. It has truly been a win-win project for us, the carriers and our clients."
